CHALLENGINE roles will be on offer when Chesil Theatre, Winchester, auditions for Gaslight, the highly successful thriller by British playright Patrick Hamilton in January.
Open auditions are being held on the weekend of January 7 and 8, preceded by an informal reading of the play on Friday January 6.
Set in a fog-bound, murky London of 1890, the leading character is Bella Manningham, whose concerns are not only the sound of creaking floorboards in the supposedly empty flat above, accompanied by ghostly flickering gaslight, but also her suave and charming husband Jack’s unexplained absences. Does the terror exist only in her mind, or is it real? A retired policeman Inspector Rough makes a shocking discovery.
Gaslight runs at the Chesil Theatre from April 1 to 8.
