SUP Theatre Company celebrate the work of one of the UK's best loved authors this week in their latest production, featuring ghouls, ghastly soldiers, plot twists and turns and one jar of fingers...

Terry Pratchett’s Monstrous Regiment is at Nuffield Theatre from Tuesday to Saturday.

The 22-character play tells the story of Polly Perks, a woman who joins the army in a bid to find her lost brother, but there’s one major problem: in the Discworld territory of Borogravia, women aren’t allowed to join up. A haircut, a change of clothes, and an extra pair of socks later, Polly is now Private Oliver Perks, marching off to war as part of the finest army in the world, an army with a secret.

Joined by a cast of heroic reprobates including a (reformed) vampire with a coffee habit, a troll, an Igor, a Lieutenant who is more of a danger to himself than the enemy, Polly begins her quest. With enemy forces fast approaching, the Monstrous Regiment are suddenly in the thick of it, without any training. Will the best man for the job be a woman?

Director, Imogen Higgs said: "It’s a completely standalone novel, so you don’t have to know the back stories of the characters to enjoy it. If you’re a complete Discworld novice you can watch and be immersed in the story without thinking that you’re missing something – it’s just a brilliant story that we hope to tell in the way Pratchett intended. There are, of course, some well-loved characters making an appearance for the fans”.
