Daily Echo Curtain Call Awards 2009

THE stars of Hampshire’s amateur dramatics world were out in force this weekend for the Daily Echo’s annual Curtain Call awards, dubbed the Oscars of the South.

An audience of around 450 listened intently as the winners of 37 categories were announced by guest of honour Mike Osman, the popular radio presenter, impressionist and entertainer.

Performing Arts Winchester scooped the coveted production of the year prize for their version of Jekyll and Hyde, a dark and complex musical which kept the audience spellbound.

Daily Echo editor Ian Murray and entertainments editor Lorelei Reddin compered the evening, which included a drinks reception, three-course dinner and dancing.

There was also entertainment from Music Theatre South with a song from Avenue Q, members of the cast of Eastleigh Operatic and Musical Society’s HMS Pinafore and Wayne Ings and Amanda Warne from Hamble Players.
