A cunning servant lands himself two jobs. However, pleasing two masters is complex for the mischievous Truffaldino – the first master is a lady disguised as her brother, searching Venice for her long-lost lover, who just happens to be the second master. Juggling his duties and trying not to get rumbled, Truffaldino is caught in a hilarious whirlwind of mishaps, chaos and confusion.
Matt Avery (Truffaldino) and Joanna Russel (Clarice) deserve special mention, but it is almost impossible to single out individual performances from such a magnificent ensemble production.
Brian Stansbridge’s expert direction elicited every ounce of comedy value; a modernised script, wonderful visual comic slapstick, great timing, excellent larger-than-life characters, stunning 1920s costumes, splendid special and sound effects, musical interludes and first-class diction combined to ensure the audience enjoyed a wonderful evening of comedy.
