A cosy pub should be the ideal setting for an evening of the most intimate and powerful theatre that is Two – an excellently written comic drama about an embittered pub landlord and his wife intertwined with snapshots of their customers’ lives.
It’s a shame that the actual bar was not used for the production, as this would have added to the ambience, and a further minor quibble is that more sound effects with better timing could have been used to assist with the miming sections.
However, those are very minor points (and perhaps inevitable in a touring production with only one night per venue).
Lauren Farnhill and Tim Stokes gave stellar performances with physicality, accents and slick costume-changes (brilliantly portraying 14 characters between them), while Paula Bartlett’s excellent direction ensured first-rate |timing, pathos and humour.
