REVIEW: Old Time Music Hall, Worthy Players, Jubilee Hall, Kings Worthy

Variety is the spice of life and The Worthy Players proved they were more than worthy of the old adage with their song, dance, sketches and monologues, peppered with some lovely scenery (Michael Edwards), spectacular costumes (Shirley Lovell) and sophisticated lighting (Richard Aldous).

In the spirit of community theatre everyone got a chance to shine, including the audience, who were encouraged to sing-a-long with the popular numbers, and join in they did – with gusto! The ensemble pieces were fun and there were some good voices within the cast but it was their enthusiasm that really enhanced the musical numbers. The monologues were especially good (Peter Nouwens, Shirley Lovell and Michael Edwards). Comedy was evident throughout and it was nice to see the Master of Ceremonies relax as the evening wore on and his jokes deteriorated.

The audience proved to be the barometer of their success with full houses and a balmy appreciation on this cold December evening.
