9:56am Wednesday 8th February 2012 in Curtain Call By Anne Waggott
EVERYONE knows the story of how Peter Pan defeated Captain Hook, but what happened when Pan returned to London to find a wife for the Redskin Chief while Hook made plans to liquidate his nemesis? Here, in another good example of the benefits of community/youth theatre, we found out!
Kate Downer was a cheekily charming and energetic Peter Pan, opposite Hook (Kieron King), who leered, swaggered and laughed despicably in the best pirate tradition.
Jack Slade had a ball as the Chief’s love interest, Dame Dotty Darling, and the youngest performers were simply enchanting (John and the two rats particularly).
Lottie King (Tigerlily) was excellent as the Chief’s daughter (and in a couple of other cameos!), and her dancing brought out the best of Rosie Slade’s lively choreography.
Oliver Downer (Michael) showed a great aptitude for comedy with a great eccentric professorial character.
Not a perfect production, but hugely entertaining!
