IRONICALLY, Laura Wade’s play may have the potential to put an end altogether to domestic drama, of which it is an unconscionably bland example.
It demonstrates that when a nice family is assailed by an unreasonable tragedy, in this case the demise of the mother (Jaqueline Arnott) from bone cancer, all they have to do is remain nice and try to listen to each other, and they will come through the storm without too much having changed.
The cast all perform well, though. Clare Blackburn is natural and appealing. The tiff she has with her sister (Amanda Jacobs) and widower-to-be Peter Trott’s phone quarrel with the boiler engineer have rigour.
