JOHANN Strauss’ comedy featured performances that surely rank alongside the famous names whose images adorn the walls of this impressive theatre.

The tale of deceit featured Gabriel von Eisenstein (a confident Paul Bruce) and his disaffected wife Rosalinda.

Emily Buck was simply sensational in this role and surely has the talent to go far.

No less talented was Sophie McAdam Clark, who gave a brilliant performance as Eisenstein’s personal assistant, Adele.

Eisenstein is persuaded by his best friend Dr Falke (the lively Christian Morrall) to enjoy a bawdy night out before going to jail. Great support came from Tom Harrison (Prison Governor) and Matt Cooper (hilarious opera singer Alfred).

Vicky Hathaway was a laidback, stylish Russian aristocrat and Ross Stevenson was very funny as the prison warder.

Producer Nathalie Gunn’s show benefited from crystalclear sound, but there were some odd lighting changes. The orchestra, led by Colin Jagger, was outstanding.
