Winchester Operatic Society’s spring show at the theatre Royal in Winchester is the popular Gilbert and Sullivan comic operetta HMS Pinafore.
You may think you know this muchloved and often-performed light opera, but this new production will take you to places you have never been before!
There will be plenty that’s familiar – Sullivan’s sparkling tunes beautifully harmonising with Gilbert’s tale of unrequited love amid ships and overturning the conventional social order. But as in many of Gilbert and Sullivan’s operas, a surprise disclosure changes things dramatically.
This time the nautical theme is brought right into the 21st century and beyond, as we are transported many light-years into the future!
