TICKETS are on sale for a RAF concert honouring those who helped defend Britain in 1940.

Whether fighting the Luftwaffe during the Battle of Britain or scrambling Typhoons to escort Russian Bears off the Cornish coast in 2015, the concert marks unsung heroes throughout the past 75 years.

The Battle of Britain 75th Anniversary Concert will take place at The Anvil in Basingstoke on October 21, turning the spotlight on those who contributed to the country’s “finest hour”.

Featuring the Central Band of the RAF, the show will include rousing military marches, popular songs from the era, plus big band numbers and classical pieces that showcase the virtuosity of the musicians.

From Bernstein’s Mambo to Holst’s Mars, the concerts will serve as a musical tribute to all those who participated in the Battle of Britain and to those who have inherited their legacy.

The concert is staged in support of the RAF Charitable Trust and will be compered by BBC Radio Two broadcaster Alan Dedicoat.

Concert organiser Tina Outlaw said: “We’re looking forward to building on the success of last year’s hugely popular concert, which took the audience on an entertaining musical journey that charted the 50 years since the Red Arrows’ first display season.

This year’s anniversary not only gives us the opportunity to look back to the events of 1940 but also to recognise those men and women of today who protect UK airspace 24/7.”

Tickets cost £19-£25 and are available from The Anvil box office on 01256 844244.
