NUFFIELD Youth Theatre is presenting the two-part stage adaptation of Philip Pullman’s multi award-winning His Dark Materials trilogy at the Nuffield Theatre.

Directed by Max Lindsay (The Best Christmas Present in the World, The Laramie Project Cycle, both Nuffield Youth Theatre), with design by Emma Cains (Swallows and Amazons, Pink Mist, both Bristol Old Vic), the production features over 80 young actors between 13 and 21-years-old from the Hampshire area.

The cast bring to life Pullman’s beloved fantasy – a coming-of-age story about Lyra and Will’s quest through parallel worlds.

As Lyra’s uncle blasts a hole in the multiverse, worlds collide and they plunge headlong into an adventure with demons, witches and armoured bears, told by the Youth Theatre using physical theatre and puppets designed by Jimmy Grimes (War Horse, National Theatre).

This spectacular production marks the first time that the whole of the Nuffield Youth Theatre has performed together as part of the same production, taking over the main stage of the Nuffield Theatre for a full fortnight of performances.

Nicholas Wright’s adaptation of the His Dark Materials book trilogy premiered at the National Theatre in 2004, with a film of The Golden Compass released in 2007.

Performances run until July 11.
