THE Monster musical Shrek has taken 'ogre' Southampton!
Striding into the Mayflower and direct from London where it played to almost a million people, this eagerly anticipated family show is here until July 26.
This epic production was transported here in eight huge trucks and is as lavish and spectacular as the Drury Lane show.
Turning heads outside the city centre theatre as they made their grand entrance yesterday were beloved swamp-dwelling ogre Shrek ( Dean Chisnall), damsel in distress Fiona ( Bronté Barbé), Shrek’s wisecracking sidekick ‘Donkey’ (Idriss Kargbo) and pint-sized villain Lord Farquaad ( Gerard Carey).
The show is directed by former EastEnders star Nigel Harman who starred as Lord Farquaad in the west end production, winning him the 2012 Laurence Olivier Award for Best Performance in a Supporting Role in a Musical.
They are joined by a full company of fairy-tale characters based on the story and characters from William Steig’s book Shrek! and the Academy Award-winning DreamWorks Animations feature film.
