A HIT musical will be returning to a Hampshire stage with a member of one of the most well-known boy bands in the UK.

Priscilla Queen of the Desert the musical will return to Southampton’s Mayflower Theatre for a week only next month starring Blue’s Duncan James after it proved a hit with audiences last time around in 2013.

The West End and Broadway hit, which is based on the film tells the story of three friends who hop aboard a battered old bus searching for love and friendship, but ending up finding much more.

Daily Echo:

It will star James as Tick on the tour that comes to the Mayflower Theatre from September 14 to September 19.

Daily Echo:

Alongside the outrageous costumes there will be a host of recognisable classic dance floor anthems to get audiences toe tapping or even dancing in the aisles.

These include I Will Survive, I Say a Little Prayer, What’s Love Got To Do With It, Hot Stuff, Finally, Boogies Wonderland, Go West, Girls Just Wanna Have Fun and I Love the Nightlife.

David Ian Productions and the Ambassador Theatre Group are producing the show, which has won Olivier and Tony awards.

As one quarter of the pop band Blue, James has sold over 13 million records, had three number one albums and 40 number one singles worldwide.

He has already played leading roles on stage in major musicals, with credits including playing Warner Huntington III in the West End production of Legally Blonde alongside Sheridan Smith and Billy Flynn in Chicago.

And he was also a finalist on ITV1’s Dancing on Ice in 2007.

The touring production of Priscilla starts in Manchester and will see performances across the UK finishing in April next year.

Priscilla Queen of the Desert the musical originally opened in Australia in 2006 and after a sell-out two year run, opened in London’s West End in 2009 followed by Broadway in 2011.
