DIRECT from Shakespeare’s Globe the Nuffield Theatre will stage The Flying Lovers of Vitebsk next week (July 5-9).

This is a dazzling and evocative new play vividly drawn from the early life of the artist Marc Chagall. This brand new production from Kneehigh and Bristol Old Vic comes to Southampton following rave reviews at Bristol Old Vic and Shakespeare’s Globe.

Kneehigh, who specialise in visually stunning, adventurous theatre and beautiful music, pay a beautiful tribute to the extraordinary love story of Marc and Bella Chagall - the flying lovers of Vitebsk. This play traces the story of the lives of the young couple as they navigate the Pogroms, the Russian Revolution, and each other – taking place in an unrivalled time of political turmoil in Europe.

Vigorous staging is woven throughout this piece, along with a terrific score of live Klezmer music and singing, inspired from Russian Jewish folk tradition and played by super-talented, multi-instrumentalist musicians.

Kneehigh Associate, Emma Rice, directs Marc Antolin (The Trial, Young Vic, Amadeus, Chichester Festival Theatre, Matilda, RSC Courtyard Theatre, Cambridge Theatre) as Marc and Audrey Brisson (Dead Dog in a Suitcase, Kneehigh, The Elephantom, National Theatre, Romeo and Juliet, Rose Theatre, Kingston) as Bella Chagall in Daniel Jamieson’s The Flying Lovers of Vitebsk.

Tickets are available from the Box Office 023 8067 1771 or online at nuffieldtheatre.co.uk
