MAYFLOWER Theatre will be opening its doors for visitors to get an up close and personal look at how one of the most successful theatres in the country is run at its 30th Anniversary Open Day on Saturday September 3.

Ahead of the arrival of Mandela Trilogy, a musical tribute to Nelson Mandela, visitors will gain a rare insight into everything that happens on and off-stage at one of the UK's biggest theatres.

Knowledgeable staff will guide visitors through costumes, make up, dressing rooms, props from shows and give them the chance to stand on stage and gaze out upon over 2,200 seats.

Discover costumes from Birmingham Royal Ballet and Welsh National Opera. Special effects gurus The Twins FX will display props from the world of pantomime along with the odd one or two from film and TV.

Watch a wig and make-up demonstration and find out more about theatrical make-up with help from Solent University.

Enjoy performances from Summer Youth Dance Project performers who have worked with Rambert and ZooNation Dance Companies.

There will be nothing like a dame as Nigel Ellacott and Lee Redwood roam the theatre and show off a display of Nigel’s outrageously funny dame costumes.

Find out more about the exciting development plans for the theatre over the coming years, take a look into the archive and share your stories.
