A HAMPSHIRE star of the future has been selected to join the prestigious National Youth Dance Company.

Talented dancer Oscar Li has been chosen as one of the best 16 to 18-year-old dancers in the country and will now become a member of the company, led by Sadler's Wells.

The Hampshire Youth Dance Company member was selected after auditions at The Point in Eastleigh.

HYDC Company Rehearsal Director Tory East said: "This is an incredible achievement for Oscar. NYDC has a high profile, bringing together some of the best young dancers from across the country; and places are not given lightly. Oscar will have the opportunity to take his training to the next level. I am incredibly proud of Oscar and the outstanding achievements of all our HYDC dancers this year. I cannot wait to see what happens next!”

Some of the dancers at NYDC are already embarking on full-time dance training and many go on to study dance in higher education following their time with the coveted company. During their year with the company, selected members will learn, create and perform bold and original performance works at Sadler’s Wells’ 1,500 seat auditorium and at other world-class venues.

The news comes as Hampshire Youth Dance Company (HYDC) celebrate their 20th birthday. To audition in September to join HYDC, visit hepointeastleigh.co.uk
