MARKING 200 years since the death of Hampshire's most famous author RAODS continue to present Pride and Prejudice at The Plaza Theatre, Romsey until Saturday (March 18).

This 2012 stage adaptation of Jane Austen's most beloved masterpiece, co-commissioned by Theatre Calgary and Canada's National Arts Centre, faithfully retains the wit, comedy, and romance of the original novel.

The cast and director were recently invited to Broadlands in Romsey, home of RAODS President Lady Brabourne, for a photoshoot.

Director Julie Edwards said: “It was an absolutely wonderful experience for me as director to see the cast in costume in such a beautiful setting at Broadlands. The grounds and backdrop of the house were exactly right for the period of our Jane Austen play. I could not believe how much it affected the cast’s posture. From the minute we entered the grounds, everyone became more dignified, and it was truly a wonderful afternoon.”

Cast member Georgette Ellison (playing Caroline Bingley) added, “I felt very grand as I walked down the gravel paths at Broadlands in my costume - it helped hugely to get into my character."

Tickets £12 from www.plazatheatre.com or from the Romsey TIC on 01794 512987.
