SOUTH Downe Musical Society returns to Ferneham Hall next week with Calamity Jane.

The first production in their Diamond Jubilee year, it is in fact the fourth time the company have performed the thigh-slapping classic since forming in 1957.

Kimberley Harvey takes on the role of the gun-totin, buck-skinned heroine in her first lead role with the company since joining in 2015. Her previous roles with the society include Margot in Legally Blonde and Rizzo in Grease, the latter for which she was nominated a Curtain Call for Best Supporting Actress.

She’s thoroughly relished the role made famous by Doris Day in the 1953 movie musical, on which the stage show is based. “My favourite thing about being Calamity is the diversity of the character. She has so many avenues to her personality and it's wonderful to get to perform all of them. From her boisterous, sharp shooting and masculine side to her vulnerable, caring & passionate edge.”

Suitable for all ages, the show marks the directorial debut of Jane Pegler, a long-standing member of SDMS.

Calamity Jane runs from Wednesday April 5- Saturday April 8, including a Saturday matinee. Tickets available from Ferneham Hall Box Office on 01329 231942 and at fernehamhall.co.uk
