THE Worthy Players are branching out once more next week presenting two short comedies by the renowned French comic dramatist, Moliere, directed by Peter Wooldridge.

In the first play, 'A Doctor In spite of Himself', a wife seeking revenge manages to convince people that her husband will admit to being a doctor (which he isn't) if you beat him hard enough. Forced into admitting that he is a doctor, the husband soon realises that it's a lucrative business. He proceeds to bluster his way through spouting Latin and making it up as he goes along, with hilarious consequences. But will he get caught out or will he end up a wealthy man?

The second play, 'George Dandin', is about another man who has ploughed his wealth into a noble but penniless family and, as a result, married their daughter. Unfortunately for him, his marriage is loveless and his wife is intent on finding a lover. With the help of her scheming maid, can she manage to outwit her husband as he tries to prove to his snobby parents-in-law that their daughter is in the wrong, or will he succeed?

These modern English translations bring some very entertaining situation comedies to life for both young and old. Performances are being staged April 20-22, 7.30pm, at Jubilee Hall, Kings Worthy.
