JEFFREY Holland who played Spike in the TV comedy series Hi-De-Hi will be starring in Brassed Off when it visits Theatre Royal Winchester this autumn.

As well as the much-loved BBC sitcom about a holiday camp which ran from 1980 to 1988, Jeffrey Holland also starred in the TV comedies You Rang M’Lord and Oh, Doctor Beeching. He has continued to appear in numerous TV programmes including Coronation Street where he played Clive Drinkwater.

Brassed Off is a co-production by Talking Scarlet and Wolverhampton Grand Theatre based on the film of the same name. It’s a funny, life-affirming tale of community spirit and triumph in the face of adversity.

Danny, played by Jeffrey Holland, has had a lifelong ambition to lead Grimley Colliery band to the National Brass Band Competition. When the pit faces closure, the town is thrown into conflict and the future of the band looks bleak. Then a flugelhorn player Gloria arrives bringing with her a renewed sense of hope and a touch of romance, but she may not be all she seems.

Brassed Off, which will feature a local brass band, plays at Theatre Royal Winchester from September 25 to 30. Tickets are available at theatreroyalwinchester.co.uk or by calling 01962 840 440.
