AFTER successfully bringing Dad’s Army and ’Allo ’Allo! to the stage, Calibre Productions return to the south with a real “coup de theatre” – the first ever professional stage adaptation of the BBC’s hit comedy Porridge.
Penned by the original writers Dick Clement and Ian La Frenais, this hilarious new play features all your favourite characters from the original series.
So prepare for laughs-a-plenty as Fletch, played by Shaun Williamson (EastEnders/Extras) together with Godber and the other inmates of Slade Prison, take on the system under the nose of the eversuspicious Mr Mackay.
Speaking ahead of appearances in Southsea and Poole, Shaun Williamson told Scene South: “I’ve always been a huge fan of the show and it transfers brilliantly. It is based on two episodes of the show – the boxing match in the first act and then a Christmas special.
“It’s going down a storm everywhere we go and I’m looking forward to coming back to the South after appearing in Guys and Dolls at The Mayflower, which I really enjoyed.
“After that I did Never Forget, the Take That musical, and next stop for me is Aladdin in Chatham with George Takei from Star Trek.”
Porridge is at Kings Theatre, Southsea from tonight until Saturday and at Lighthouse Poole from Monday to Saturday, November 21. Tickets:
