LOVERS of classic British comedy are in for a treat when the award-winning play Morecambe comes to Winchester later this month.
The show is a celebration of the extraordinary life of one of Britain’s best loved comedians, Eric Morecambe and stars the multi-talented actor Bob Golding.
Morecambe follows Eric’s humble beginnings as a lad from Lancashire, through his golden days in variety, to his status as a national treasure including his comedy partnership of 43 years with Ernie Wise.
Written by Guy Masterson, the play won the 2010 Laurence Olivier Award for Best Entertainment and a Best Actor Nomination for Bob Golding’s uncannily life-like tribute to the great comedian.
The show has the full support of Eric’s son Gary, who told Scene South: “Bob has my father off perfectly and we as a family are terribly pleased with what they’ve done with this.
“It is the man and what he was like right down to the finest details. What surprised us was what the audience bring to the performance and how emotionally affected people are by his recreation.
“It encapsulates him even for me and the Eric silhouette is not just clever, but actually quite spooky.”
Morecambe is at theatre Royal Winchester from September 21 to 25.
