Kim adds some 'Sex' appeal to theatre line-up

SEX and the City’s Kim Cattrall will be among a host of stars appearing in Chichester Festival theatre’s 50th anniversary season this year.

The actress, best known as Samantha in the hit TV series and movies, will play the role of Cleopatra in Antony and Cleopatra.

Michael Pennington will play Antony in the production, set to run from September 7 to September 29.

The theatre celebrates five decades with an anniversary season celebrating the past and future.

Uncle Vanya was part of Chichester’s very first season in 1962 and is revisited during Festival 2012, from March 30 to April 28 starring Dervla Kirwan and Timothy West.

The Way of the World in 1984 has also become an emblematic production and will run from April 13 to May 5.

Many of the actors and directors who have been such an important part of Chichester’s recent success return in 2012.

Directors Philip Franks, Angus Jackson, Rachel Kavanaugh, Jonathan Kent and Trevor Nunn, and actors Roger Allam, Henry Goodman and Penelope Keith all continue their close relationship with Chichester during this ambitious landmark season.

Distinguished actor Derek Jacobi will also feature during Festival 2012 in a production of Heartbreak House, which runs from July 6 to August 25.

Alongside these links to Chichester’s history, the commitment to developing new work remains equally important and Festival 2012 will feature two world premieres: A Marvellous Year for Plums, by Hugh Whitemore, from May 11 to June 2, and Canvas, by Michael Wynne, from May 18 to June 16, as well as Surprises (August 8 to September 8), a brand new play by Alan Ayckbourn, alongside his much-loved classic Absurd Person Singular.
