THIS compilation of popular musical numbers gave Eastleigh Operatic and Musical Society a chance to show off its talents.

It was a treat to see some acting and choreography, which made it more like watching scenes from different shows, rather than a standard variety medley.

Notable performances came from George Lambourne, whose moving rendition as Marius, framed in the moonlight, tugged at the heartstrings.

Freya Burnside as Gigi was equally emotive.

Lightening the proceedings, the feisty and fun performance of Naughty by Alex Harrison, from the awardwinning Matilda, was first-rate.

Nikki Bradley, Rebecca Woodhead and Mike Alborough also hit the spot.

On first night, the adult chorus had some hesitant moments, but not so the children, who were faultless.

The set was simple and effective and the costumes were stylised and numerous (Sue Tatnall and Heather Cousins).

The evening offered something for everyone and the overall effect was entertaining and enjoyable.
