‘HOW TO SUCCEED IN BUSINESS…’

COMPLETING the title is ‘Without Really Trying’ but a lot of effort obviously went into delivering such an excellent show. A company of more mature performers would be hard-pressed to top it, such was the quality. Director Andy Sugden had great support from his production team, with Ruthie Pinion’s name guaranteeing exuberant, inventive, choreography that both cast and audience thoroughly enjoyed. The plot: window cleaner Pierrepont Finch follows the best-selling book to map his path to success and Robin Harris was stunning in the role, supported by the equally-talented Charlie Taylor as Rosemary. James Cook stole most scenes as hapless Bud Frump, hoping his uncle, JB Biggley (the first-rate Jamie Martin) will promote him. A strong supporting cast featured Lydia Edge (Smitty), Josephine Ssemuyaba (Hedy la Rue) and the rare talent that is Emma Bryant (Miss Jones). Joe Barr led the lively orchestra on the night and the set was skilfully adapted and well-lit. Success indeed!
