It was exactly 20 years to the day since Phillip Schofield stood on the Mayflower stage and opened his week-long run in Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat.

Announcing this fact he told the packed theatre on Sunday:"Who would have thought it. I am so thrilled to be back!"

The presenter of ITV's This Morning was back treading the boards hosting The Knights of Music - a concert celebrating the legendary knights and dames of the entertainment industry who have transformed the face of music, film and theatre.

This was the final night of the mini four date tour and the charming and congenial Phillip could not have received a warmer welcome as he returned to live theatre for the first time in 17 years.

The evening featured a vibrant cast of West End performers - three boys and three girls, plus a slick on stage live band who really waved the flag for the best of British.

The tributes began with Sir Elton John and continued with the music of Lloyd- Webber, Cliff Richard, Shirley Bassey, Paul McCartney and the Beatles, Cameron Macintosh, Tim Rice, Mick Jagger, Bob Geldof, Tom Jones and more!

It was a great concept, with Phillip providing all the facts, figures and show business anecdotes; it proved a refreshing change to the typical ' songs from the musicals' shows. Initially I felt the show needed more light and shade in the delivery as it went full throttle, fast and loud. My one big gripe was Music of the Night from Phantom which lacked the feeling and intensity you would expect from such an emotionally charged iconic song.

The stand out performance came from Danielle Hope who had competed on the BBC TV Show Over the Rainbow, winning the role of Dorothy in the Wizard of Oz at the London Palladium.

Like Phillip, she shared stories with the audience about playing the Palladium ( Phillip's tale included how he used the jacuzzi Tommy Steele had left behind in his dressing room).

But Danielle's rendition of Somewhere Over the Rainbow and These are a few of My Favourite things certainly took the show to another level.

Soon the audience was singing, clapping and even swaying to Tom Jones' Sex Bomb and Delilah and the Les Mis tribute was stunning.

And finally the audience got what they were hoping and waiting for...

Phillip DID perform Any Dream Will Do as well as Close Every Door from Joseph and even pulled on his multi-coloured coat.

He proved he still has that special ability to move and engage an audience. In fact, the atmosphere was electric as he received a standing ovation for each song.

I left feeling that this might just have whetted his appetite for a full blown return to a theatrical role. Let's hope so!
