Musicals of our time
Fareham Musical Society Youth Theatre
Henry Cort Community College, Fareham
TO mark its first birthday, FMSYT has produced its most ambitious show to date, a two-hour compilation of musicals from the 1880s (to include the incomparable Gilbert and Sullivan) to the present day.
There were more firsts, with a new musical director and director, in the shape of Fiona Morris and Stuart Frank respectively, as well as Matt Swann returning to oversee the choreography.
Bigger and bolder was reflected in the style and presentation, with a sense of greater confidence both from the artistic team and the performers. The choice of material was nicely judged. There was a greater dramatic impetus in the direction and in the framing of the scenes, beautifully arranged and harmonised musical numbers and fine choreography.
The cast has certainly grown in confidence and stagecraft in the last 12 months and there are some excellent performances.
