REVIEW: SNOW WHITE AND THE SEVEN DWARFS scripted by Alan P Frayn
BURLEY PLAYERS BURLEY VILLAGE HALL
This is about as good local family pantomime can get, it's witty script peppered with corny but beloved one-liners in a crackingly paced favourite written with flare by A P Frayn. The costumes and set were beautifully full of detail, the former particularly would not look out of place on the professional stage such was the variety and sparkle from head to toe. All the lead performances were excellent, Sue Trotter shimmering her relish as the Wicked Queen Avarice trying to outwit Tamsin Fawn's elegant and well sung Snow White from the arms of Emily Newns equally vocally strong and feisty Ferdinand. A myriad of comic characters helped and hindered the journey to the rightful happy ending, Bernie Guy's scene stealing comic turn as Slurp being hilariously received. The dwarfs were well drilled and energetic and some well chosen and played music, especially the two duets, enhanced the proceedings. Sound and lighting were right on cue, the mirror effects being most praiseworthy. Pantotastic!
