REVIEW: Alice in Wonderland, The Poulner Players

ESCHEWING Disney and Burton, this version by B Duffield is a world Lewis Carroll would have identified with, relying heavily on the printed text for script vignette pathways. Alice barely leaves the stage and Erica Lakin gives a confident and assured account of herself as she tangles with the beautifully created Lewis characters, clear diction giving life to complex and lengthy dialogue. Teresa Miller was a frenetic Rabbit whilst Charlie Lakin charmed as a wily Cheshire Cat. Peter Ansell's Mock Turtle was well recited in song and verse. The set was excellently thought out given venue restrictions, new director Leesa Agar paying much attention to detail: the folding flats as the tumble down the hole, the party table and costumes (March Hare's beautiful ears) alongside atmospheric music, provided an evening of engaging entertainment.
