REVIEW: THAT’LL BE THE DAY

BOURNEMOUTH PAVILION THEATRE

PLAYING over 200 live performances every year since 1986, this hugely popular show has to be the very best in the business.

Constantly refreshed, re-written, and polished to perfection, the successful formula features hooky pop music from the 1950s, 1960s, and 70s, blended with hilarious comedy routines, reinforced by fascinating overhead projections.

The first act focuses on the development of early pop music through country and western, rock’n’roll, and into the halcyon days of the sixties.

Act Two explodes into the classy sounds of the Beach Boys’ I Get Around and Help Me Rhonda, every note played live, the vocal harmonies rich and creamy. And the quality continues throughout this fantastic show.

Costumes, lighting and choreography are superbly professional, the ten cast members are astonishingly multi-talented, and the show wonderfully entertaining.

Particular highlights include the slick Drifters’ medley, the explosive drum duo, and some outstanding comedy routines.

Trevor Payne and Gary Anderson are an experienced hilarious double act, Gary nailing Donald Trump, and Trevor perfection in his Mick Jagger monologue, with effortless perfect comic timing, holding an audience with compelling narrative comedy, with never a hint of gratuitous obscenity.

Nikki Hechavarria is a charismatic vocalist, excelling on soulful versions of Walk On By and Hot Love.

Peter John Jackson is a phenomenal vocalist and musician, demonstrating enormous accomplishment as Paul McCartney and Freddie Mercury.

This outstanding show runs until September 16 ... enjoy!
