THERE’S no doubt about, it, it’s one of my favourite things.

This spectacular touring production of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s The Sound of Music is certainly the greatest show to grace The Mayflower stage in several years.

It is a visual treat even superior to the acclaimed London Palladium version of the show and left the sell-out audience last night spellbound. A brilliant cast certainly deserved every moment of their lengthy ovation, received despite many of them being struck down with a cold.

Connie Fisher is quite remarkable as she reprises her role of Maria. She exudes warmth, personality and energy and eclipses all of her illustrious predecessors in the role she took on after winning the BBC talent show How Do You Solve a Problem Like Maria?

Michael Praed is charming as Captain Von Trapp and Maggie Preece gives a note-perfect performance in the role of Mother Abbess. Her rich voice filled the Mayflower in several utterly spine tingling solos.

The trio of West End stars are supported by a wonderful cast, particularly the show-stealing children, who obviously have a great rapport and did not put a single foot wrong in a wonderfully choreographed performance.

The orchestra were superb as they moved through a familiar score with everything from Do-Re-Mi to The Lonely Goatherd.

We were transported to the abbey, the Von Trapp home and across the mountains as the famous tale was brought to life by a great set, which proved incredibly atmospheric and believable.

The problem of Maria has clearly been solved as more than 2,000 people left The Mayflower last night having had their faith in human nature restored in the most spectacular of fashions by the ultimate feel-good show.

Business is booming at The Mayflower so you may have to beg, steal or borrow to bag a ticket. But do see this show if you possibly can.

The Sound of Music runs until October 24.
