MOTOWN is still magic.
There is nothing particularly new or cutting edge about this show, which has visited The Mayflower several times in as many years, but it remains something special.
Dancing in the Streets, which opened on its latest run last night, showcases some of the greatest songs of all time performed by some seriously talented performers.
All the Motown classics are there with everything from Stevie Wonder to Diana Ross and from The Temptations to The Four Tops.
A thrilled audience of all ages were on their feet for most of the second act getting down to the likes of I Heard It Through The Grapevine, Baby Love, My Girl and Endless Love.
A cast of exceptional singers, backed up by a great live band, perform songs in front of a simple backdrop of images of Detroit, the home of Tamla Records, interspersed with facts about some of Motown’s greats.
A spectacular light and laser show and some fabulous costumes are great, but in this show it’s all about the music.
And the people of Southampton showed with their clapping hands, swaying arms and dancing feet that they are crazy about it.
Dancing in the Streets runs until Saturday.
