THE unmistakable madcap antics of Monty Python were brought to life brilliantly at The Mayflower last night.

The Southampton theatre is hosting the hit show Spamalot, which brings together some of the most memorable material from these comic greats.

The show does not include the original cast members in person, but their work is revived and updated by a talented cast.

The lead character of Arthur, king of the Britons, is played ably by Marcus Brigstocke supported by his scruffy serf, Patsy, played by Todd Carty.

Much of the material is drawn from the 1970s film Monty Python and the Holy Grail. It includes some wonderful silliness and surreal moments such as killer rabbits.

Even with the passing of more than three decades, this classic material is still funny and has stood the test of time.

For those with a prior knowledge of the Python songbook, there are plenty of zany ditties, including spam-related ones, to join in with and enjoy.

It has been a while since I have laughed this much at the theatre.

Indeed, if laughter is the best |medicine, this should be available on prescription.
