Wright believes in Saints' squad
 |
| Richard Wright |
RICHARD WRIGHT thinks Saints have good enough players to drag themselves out of relegation trouble this season.
The on-loan West Ham keeper made his debut and kept a clean sheet in the goalless draw with Coventry at St Mary's.
Coming in and seeing the squad for the first time as an outsider he is well placed to comment on what he finds.
He said: "I don't think we should be down there.
"If you look at the quality of player in the squad it is very good and we can get out of this.
"I think we've got to go out and keep a clean sheet every game and build on that base and then if we can nick goals and move up the table fantastic."

Well im glad we have you in goal for a month, well played on saturday. As for having the quality in the team maybe so why are'nt these players performing?maybe because they know the club is on the brink of administration so why bother, same thing happened to me when the last company i worked for closed down nobody gave a **** when it was announced.
I will always support S.F.C.but i cannot see ourselves getting out of this and thats being realistic!!!!!!!!

Yet another new player who thinks we are better than our current position. Reality check the table does not lie!
Reality check we have to make do and pray and hope that we avoid the drop. If we can do this then NP needs to have a serious clear out of the dead wood and start grabbing hold of the board and tell them a few home truths. This team at the moment is littered with dead wood and players who are just colecting their wages without having to work for it. The team is unfit and has not been fit from the start of the season. Be brave NP and next season build a young energetic team that want to win. I love this club and would not support any other team in the country so please team start returning the loyalty of the fans.

Well put Saint38. I feel that this reflects the considered view of most genuine and rationale Saints supporters. Re my post on "Pearson, we must .....". COYR, I will be Saints Forever.

Richard Wright looks confident and classy and seems to know how to organise a defence.
Do you think West Ham would notice if we sent one of our keepers back next month instead?

It hurts me to say this,and I might upset a few saints supporters,but Southampton Football Club at the moment,have a 2nd rate chairman,with a 2nd rate manager,followed by a 2nd rate team.
Unless we start getting professional people in to start running the club properly,we are going nowhere.

I'm not sure what I would rather hear Wright say, just now.
Would it be better for him to say what he has, that the players are too good for the team to be in this position, or that the players are so bad that they deserve to be where they are?
If we believe what he says, then we also have to believe we are in this position because the players, despite being good enough, haven't put in enough effort to safeguard the clubs future.
If we don't believe him, and believe the team are sh1t, then we are clearly doomed and will have to rely on other teams underperforming in order to pick up points in our last 6 games.
