Mascarenhas won't be going back to IPL - Bransgrove
 |
| Dimi Mascarenhas |
Hampshire chairman Rod Bransgrove does not intend to let Dimitri Mascarenhas return to the Indian Premier League later this month.
Mascarenhas will captain Hampshire against Surrey in the County Championship, a game which starts at the Rose Bowl tomorrow, after returning to Southampton following his IPL debut for the Rajasthan Royals on Sunday.
After arriving in Jaipur at the end of April, he was overlooked for four games while Hampshire struggled without him.
But he became the IPL's first England-qualified player when he helped the Royals to a three-wicket win against the Delhi Daredevils that put them two points clear at the top of the IPL table on Sunday.
The franchise captained by Shane Warne - and featuring next month's Hampshire overseas star Shane Watson - is now favourite to qualify for the semi-finals at the end of May.
Before leaving for India, Mascarenhas hinted that he would like to return if the Royals finish in the top four.
If he does, he would miss another Championship match, against Kent at the Rose Bowl.
But Bransgrove has insisted that Mascarenhas's responsibility is with the Hampshire team he captains.

Seems a bit pointless to me. He only played 1 out of the 5 games he was there. We need him a hell of a lot more than they do in India! lets just hope Shane Watson continues the form he has shown in the IPL when he joins up with us later in the season!
