Police arrest man over city rape
DETECTIVES have arrested a man over the rape of a young woman in Southampton.
The man, aged in his 30s, was picked up at an address in the Bitterne area of the city late last night
He was today in police custody at a Southampton station where he was being interviewed.
The arrest came as officers working on the investigation revisited the scene of the sex attack, near an underpass in Compton Walk, exactly one week on.
The woman had been sat on pavement close to the Edge nightclub in St Mary's Road, when two men approached her and dragged her towards the underpass where she was raped.
The pair then ran to a dark blue car which sped off after the attack that happened between 12.30am and 1.15am.
