Abigail sounds sweet as Miss Southampton
 |
| Abigail's moment of triumph. Order nos: 6763293 |
SHE sings, she dances and she's the new Miss Southampton.
Abigail Egginton has taken the beauty queen crown for 2008 after a night of glitz and glamour at St Mary's Stadium.
The 20-year-old instantly won over the judges with her talented singing voice and infectious personality that had everyone cheering the gorgeous blonde when the results were announced.
She also impressed judges in the swimsuit round and stole plenty of points in the traditional evening gown round.
Surprised at the decision, Abigail, who sells clothes at men's fashion store Austin Reed, said: "I can't believe it. I honestly didn't expect to win. So many of the other girls are very pretty and nice and this has come as a total shock."
Awarding Abigail with her prize sash and Miss Southampton crown was last year's beauty queen Chelsea Collins and Saints star Claus Lundekvam, who both judged the competition.
Also sitting at the judges' table were Saints goalkeeper Kelvin Davis, Power FM DJ Ben Glover, DV8 magazine editor Annaliese Branston and the Daily Echo's Corey Stephenson.
Abigail, who lives in Basingstoke, will now represent Southampton in the Miss England final and, if successful, she will travel to Ukraine for the final of Miss World where she will represent her country in the most televised event on the planet.
"I love Southampton and winning at St Mary's Stadium is amazing. I am really looking forward to representing the city in Miss England," she said.
To see more on the new Miss Southampton read tomorrow's Daily Echo.

if you go to crufts and win you need to be a dog to win it???
how is it Miss Southampton does not need to be from SOUTHAMPTON.
was last years winner from dorset or somewhere?

Dread to think how similar Miss Portsmouth would be to Vikki Pollard.

Maybe she should be Miss Hampshire?
Why not a home grown bird for the title and plenty of wannabe beauty queens scattered around our fair city.
Local heats could be held at McDonalds, KFC, Burger King etc

Does this then mean anyone who wants to enter is barred from doing so - Miss Basingstoke only started this year maybe it was too late for her to enter in her own town - ever thought deeper into it - why don't people just take note of the "voice of youth" comment

As it was being held at St Mary's Stadium, you just knew that it would not be 'a home win'!

the clue is in the title?
why do you find this hard to deal with.
i disagree with you and the 'voice of youth' on this basis. miss southampton should be from southampton. its so simple!

i agree jason but would have had katy, virginia and abigail, in order i would have put katy first then abigail then virginia, i was there also but didnt know any of the miss southampton models but they certainly looked amazing in their swimwear and katys dance was really impressive too. my sister was doing miss modelhub but not mentioning her name on here. they were right to choose abi but not first place this whole event was a mess and judges should try and judge properly next time

Is this girl even pretty? - Not in this picture - funny face and straggly hair - hardly a beauty. Requirements should be (as in most things) residency - you have to have lived in Southampton for a very long time in order to qualify! otherwise what is to stop a german being Miss. Southampton or someone from Pompy?

I was there, it takes alot of courage for these girls to do this. My daughter entered and was in the top three. She has never done anything like this before, so fair play. for all you out there slating this event, how about getting a life.. You must have too much time on your hands to be making such comments, sad. Well done to all the girls who took part , you all looked fab !! And a very enjoyable evening, thanks to modelhub for all the hard work. And a big thankyou to my daughter for making me the proudest mum in southampton.

May by entering a competition in your own town winners would then be accused of knowing the judges, organisers, sponsors etc....
With any beauty/talent competition there are always people who are disgruntled with the outcome - I mean, did you see the winner of Britain's Got Talent!!!!!
