MICHAEL Svensson never once doubted that he would play for Saints again.

After virtually three years without a competitive appearance, and a whole year living off his savings as he tried to rehabilitate himself, Svensson will complete an incredible comeback when he captains Saints in tomorrow's Championship opener at Cardiff.

It is another major step for Svensson, who first injured his knee back in 2004 and has since endured FIVE major operations.

He said: "I'm delighted to come this far.

"With the operation I had last year it was going to be a long road to get back and I'm delighted to put the Saints shirt back on.

"I never doubted I would see this day.

"I tried to stay positive the whole way through.

"There's no short cut, it's hard work, but I always thought I was going to be there.

"It's a big thing for me to be captain and to lead the boys out. I'm honoured."

A truly inspirational man. Well done Killer.
What a great ambassador to the young people out there you are.
It goes to show that if you really want something you can work as hard as you can, have the right mindset and family support behind you and you can achieve your hopes/dreams an goals.
Well done and I really hope all goes well.
We would still be in the Premier league if it wasn't for this injury. I think all true Saints fans have been through most stages of the injury with you minus the ops and pain of course !
Killer the Hero and a true Saint.

Well Done Michael, you sir deserve to be called a Saints Legend.
A true inspiration to our up and coming players, I only wish players the like of Saganowski & Skacel, and in the past Powell & Pahars, had even a quarter of your desire to play for our club.

When the time comes for YOUR testimonial I will be first in the queue for tickets.
