MICHAEL Svensson never once doubted that he would play for Saints again.
After virtually three years without a competitive appearance, and a whole year living off his savings as he tried to rehabilitate himself, Svensson will complete an incredible comeback when he captains Saints in tomorrow's Championship opener at Cardiff.
It is another major step for Svensson, who first injured his knee back in 2004 and has since endured FIVE major operations.
He said: "I'm delighted to come this far.
"With the operation I had last year it was going to be a long road to get back and I'm delighted to put the Saints shirt back on.
"I never doubted I would see this day.
"I tried to stay positive the whole way through.
"There's no short cut, it's hard work, but I always thought I was going to be there.
"It's a big thing for me to be captain and to lead the boys out. I'm honoured."

Well Done Michael, you sir deserve to be called a Saints Legend. A true inspiration to our up and coming players, I only wish players the like of Saganowski & Skacel, and in the past Powell & Pahars, had even a quarter of your desire to play for our club. When the time comes for YOUR testimonial I will be first in the queue for tickets.
