JAN Poortvliet is planning to hand five players their first ever Saints league start in tomorrow's curtain-raiser at Cardiff.

Remarkably, that will be the first time since 1946 that any Saints manager has given so many players their first start at once.

Poortvliet is expected to start with Simon Gillett, Morgan Schneiderlin, Lloyd James, Jake Thomson and Lee Holmes at Ninian Park.

But he has no doubts that they are ready to shine.

He said: "When you make a choice you make a choice and the coach has to be the number one person who believes in it.

"I don't know who will be the subs for this team but I think they need each other, they have played with each other and every game they play well.

"They have to go on and you have to believe in them. It's up to them because at some time you have to start.

"Normally you start with two or three youngsters but we start with a lot because the situation is like that.

"We have the quality and it's up to us and them to show it in the real games."

Do you remember the young side that Chris Nichol built. They were exciting and got us to two FA cup semi finals. We have pace in the side now which we have been lacking. I still think though that we need a couple of fullbacks and a strong striker even though McGoldrick has done well in the friendlies.

AS SUPPORTERS LETS SIT BACK AND ENJOY EVERY SINGLE MOMENT GOOD AND SOMETIMES BAD AND FULLY BACK EVERYTHING THATS SAINTS TRY TO DO OUR PATIENCE AND SUPPORT WILL BE REWARDED IN THE END . After all the negative comments its good to see some positive ones. We need to be realistic about the season and if if we lose tomorrow or don't beat Birmingham next week then its not the end of the world as they are likely to be two of the top teams in the division. Its more important to keep behind the young team and spur them on so we can get a decent mid table finish by beating those teams that will be in the bottom half.

Deeply saddened by what has, happened to the Saints says...

Yeah and then the Guy who let Lowe in sacked him and appointed Branfoot. Askham! Now there is a person with a lot to account for. Sacking Nochol , appointing Branfoot and letting Lowe in. They say disasters normally happen in threes and that was true in this case.

Let's all look forward with optimism of a bright future. We should not keep dwelling in the past. I am excited about the medium term development of this young side. We will need to be patient and not revert back to moaning after a couple of games. I remain confident that we can make steady progress and regain our place in The Prem within 2 or 3 years. I intend to enjoy the experience. COYR.

Just been looking at other websites predicting that Saints will struggle to come higher than 22nd this season, i think that would work in our favor we were always good as underdogs, but when we were predicted to do well we stumbled under the pressure.

this side i think are gonna shock the division and be right up there in the promotion mix. Its time for us supporters to get behind the team and stop winging about the chairman!!

COYR!!

Lets not start an argument about Rupert Lowe again. The man is a genius and should be revered as a hero. The moaners can all go and support PFC as they are not true fans. You can't be a real fan unless you support Lowe.

Don't ask me why but I am beginning to get a bit excited. I really was not sure about Jan & all the delays in naming squad etc but I seem to feel confident. It is a young, new squad & we have to start somewhere. I think this it, this where Saints start again. COYR

PLEASE NOTE I NEVER INDICATED A TIME ON HOW LONG IT MIGHT TAKE THINGS TO WORK OUT I ALSO SAID THERE MAYBE SOME BAD MOMENTS ASWELL. I RESPECT YOUR OPINION BUT THERE IS A DIFFERENCE BETWEEN BEING REALISTIC AND BEING A SINIC(EXCUSE THE SPELLING) I JUST HOPE ALL THE FANS CAN BE PATIENT SUPPORT WHAT THERE TRYING TO DO AND GRIT THERE TEETH THROUGH ANY BAD MOMENTS.
AS FOR THE VARIOUS LEAGUES THAT EXIST IVE BEEN WATCHING LOCAL MENS FOOTBALL PLUS TYRO FOOTBALL PLUS SAINTS FOR DONKEYS YEARS I THINK WE ARE SAFE TO ASSUME I KNOW THE DIFFERENCE

The only person with a Lowe fixation or a PR agenda is you and your negative mates.

Keep trying, but you won't spread your mood of doom and gloom to the majority of people who want Saints to do well.

Still at least you've learned to be ironic, which is a step up from the usual dross.

Up the Saints.

one of these days the club is going to eat a catfish and then where will we be? Nowhere thats where! All this modern technology scares me what do i do be do wah with this shobey do wah? Why do i feel as though Saints are going to confound the critics this year... because we allways have done. When the media tip us for relegation we go and finish high mid table and when they predict we will do well we get relegated. Mark my bunions we will do a good season the portents are favourable!

Wrong spelling Tosser , its Rancid and refers to all SFC players , fans , in fact the entire population of Scumland.
