HOW much longer do we have to wait?
That is the question a Southampton hairdresser is asking after the council left a blood-stained needle in a city centre car park, despite her calling them twice to remove it.
Alice Fee reported the gruesome find after her colleague's six-year-old son picked up the used needle from the car par in Amoy Street, Bedford Place.
Alice, 21, telephoned the council to get them to clear up the mess but no one came to clean it up.
Alice, who works at Pure Hairdressers in Canton Street, said: "It's terrible. I pay £7.50 a day to park there and they have been quick enough to slap a ticket on my car twice in the past if I have been a couple of minutes late. But they take several days and phone calls to clear this up. It's not just a bit of rubbish it's extremely dangerous.
"The parking wardens must have seen it so why can't they do anything about it? It just seems like they can't be bothered."
Alice said clients had often complained about used condoms in the car park but this was the first time she had seen a needle discarded on the floor.
She added: "One of my colleagues had come in to get her hair cut with her son but as she got out of her car she noticed he had picked up this used needle with blood all on it to show her.
"She came running in to the shop and washed his hands quickly before calling a doctor to check her son was OK. He was lucky as he didn't prick himself but it could have been so much worse."
A council spokesman said: "If it is the case that Alice reported it to someone at the council then she has our apologies. If there is a bloody needle still in the car park then we will send a team out straight away."

Even though the parking attendants work for the council, doesn't mean to say that they carry the equipment required to safely dispose of such an item. Why should they be expected to put their health at risk? It's not laziness it's safety

Although bad news it was there in the first place I wonder why the mother was prepared to leave the needle there for other children to pick up? I would certainly have removed the needle - which as can be seen from the photo is attached to a syringe. Will nobody think of the (other) children, dogs, cats and chavs?

This selfish woman should have just chucked it in the bin. The council can't be relied on as they are bone idle. Other children could have been injured or worse.

I'm sure we could sell out the Mayflower, Guildhall before launching a UK arena tour? We'd have a guaranteed fanbase from this Echo forum turning up!
Maybe we should audition for the next series of 'Britains Got Talent'?
Alternative comedy at its best

They are paid for by our taxes to serve the community (albeit only with parking tickets) and will soon be able to arrest you if you happen to drop a bit of your parking ticket, for a littering offense. Certainly the woman should have disposed of it under moral responsibility, but a parking attendant should do the same under both moral responsibility and civil duty.

Denzil your clearly not very on the up are you, at the end of the day the point they are making is that the city is a shithole, and the council take enough money from us to be able to send people round to pick up **** needles such as this on a daily basis. Why should she pick up the needle, its not selfish its common sense because of infection. I know... since you have such a strong opinion on her not doing it, why dont YOU as a citizen go round picking up dirty needles voluntarily???

Denzil: "King Mush, you don't need me, there's always an audience for you sucking the excrement from your rent boy's an@l passage, I'm sure chris knows of willing to pay audiences" lol Denzil does have a way with words - even shades of Shakespeare and his obscure publication of 'Ye Olde Guide to Felching' 1608. Forget the double act - Denzil's genius should be free to entertain the world in a solo capacity.
