YOUNG genius Zohaib Ahmed has scored an A* in his maths GCSE at the age of just eight-years-old.

The maths ace is following in the footsteps of his ten-year-old big brother Wajih who last year achieved the same result and only last week achieved an A in his maths A level.

Now Zohaib has already started studying for his maths A level and hopes to break the record for the youngest person to sit the exam.

He said he found the GCSE exam only "slightly hard" and was delighted with his A* grade.

"I feel really happy and slightly relieved. I love maths because with simple logical steps you can construct complex concepts."

He also shares his big brother's ambition of working in the city as an actuary in the finance sector.

Despite his impressive maths credentials Zohaib has no school to go to in September after the family moved from Farnborough to Chandler's Ford last month.

He is currently on the waiting list to go to Knightwood Primary School in Chandler's Ford which is currently full up.

Proud mum Saadi, 36, and dad Usman, 42 of Bere Close are delighted with Zohaib's achievements.

Saadi, said: "He was at a very young age when I started to notice that he was good at maths. He started doing simple maths questions and puzzles at the age of two.

"We started playing games with him when he was little with balls - asking him how many balls there were if you added three and one which he loved.

"Both our sons have made us really proud."

Usman, who works for the Ministry of Defence said he realised his sons were particularly gifted when they were about five and able to do advanced maths.

It's excellent news, and a massive congratulations to Zohaib but I wonder if a child of such a young age should be put under such pressure.

that's a fair point...I would say in general kids are going through exams a little too young anyway. But, this kid obviously loves it so fair play to him. I hope his parents remember to educate him in all apsects of life too so that he doesn't get the tag and related problems awared by Mr Cool above.

That's very true, in fact they struggle with subjects that a language based like history and geography too. Much of the problem is that non-native speakers fail to grasp an understanding of the language beyond speaking level and are often reluctant to read written English in the same way high achieving native speakers do.

Where does it say he is an immigrant???

if he is the kid who was on GMTV this morning he appeared to have a good use of English, may just be English born then!

What is the point in taking GCSE and A levels early? It proves that they are good at one subject only. A levels are often very similar from year to year. GCSE maths is very easy as well and similar questions each year.

He's a brilliant kid. But there are drawbacks to being super-intelligent, not least the envy and resentment of others. But he should cope with the help of his father.

Will he?
Where is the evidence to suggest that someone who is good at maths will also be good at grammar?
