A new superfast mobile internet service will be launched in Southampton later this month, EE has announced today.
EE, the UK's largest mobile operator, which owns T-Mobile and Orange networks, said its new 4G service will offer speed of up to five times the existing 3G technology.
The service will be launched in parts of Southampton and nine other cities on October 30.
EE plans to roll out the 4G service to a further five cities and complete the coverage in Southampton by Christmas, and expand it to 98 per cent of the population by the end of 2014.
Small business price plans on new 4G service will start at £35 a month for unlimited calls and texts. Consumer plans will start from £36 a month.
Olaf Swantee, CEO of EE, said: “We're proud to be leading the way and pioneering the roll out of 4G in the UK. “With our new brand and unique 4G and Fibre services, we will deliver consumers and businesses across the country next-generation services and a superior level of support.
“Our new plans have been developed to offer our customers everything they have been asking for - superfast performance, choice and value - as well as a fresh approach to pricing and customer service that offers accessibility, flexibility and guidance every step of the way.”
Martin Stiven, vice president of business to business at EE, told the Daily Echo last month it was going to be “transformational in the way a lot of businesses work”, creating new opportunities, improved efficiency and productivity.
