Hunt for driver after top athlete badly hurt cycling across Forest (From Daily Echo)

Sounds like it was done with intention to seriously injure or kill, I hope the girl makes a full recovery and that the driver is found and prosecuted for causing injury through dangerous driving and failing to stop at the scene, the failing to stop is what rings the "intentional" alarm bells with me.

Oh dear Ginger_cyclist is on his soap box again how on earth he has jumped to those conclusions God knows, but of course in his distorted little mind a silver car was seen so he has to be guilty. The Police could save a fortune if they consulted him on every incident that takes place.
I wish the girl a full and speedy recovery.

Considering the injuries she suffered, I doubt she just fell off, especially as she only just crested a hill which meant she probably wasn't doing more than 20mph to 25mph and you would not get those injuries if you only fell off, I saw someone earlier crash at about 25mph earlier after overshooting a jump, he didn't break any bones, I've crashed my bike at 30mph+, I was injured yeah but no broken bones, so yeah, the car hit her.

What a completely idiotic post. Where does it say that the cyclist was run over? I think the piece says that the Police want to speak to the driver to see if he saw anything or was involved in the cyclist coming of the bike. I fell off my bike at 15 MPH and broke fingers, a collar bone and had lots of cuts. That's easy to do. You watch too much CSI. You need to get out more.

Ask the girl what happened. I hope she was wearing a helmet and makes a full recovery.

Why do you always assume the demon motorist is always to blame?
I am sure the young lady or her parents do not wish you to get on your soap box, just for once until proven otherwise that there may be a perfectly innocent reason for the accident such as a pothole or other normal road event.
Hope you feel better soon young lady, ignore Ginger and stick with the normal cycling fraternity.

I do feel that GC is a product of the attitudes of some on here. Too many of you are far too keen to shout "idiot" at people. Perhaps if you considered a different tact.

Lets look at the report - you simply do not get a broken collarbone and severe head injuries from a simple fall at the crest of a hill.

Otherwise why "hunt" for the driver?

just for you info fella, my son fell off his bike at less than 10mph and broke both wrists, collar bone and cuts and bruises so i guess you were just lucky you utter ti*

Your kid fell off, but breakages like that - CERTAINLY at that speed - are exceedingly rare. There's a wealth of data on this (both from the UK stats19 souces and from Europe)

Most breakages and head injuries are the result of a high speed impact.

Sorry, but it doesn't always happen that way, a friend of mine who is (was) a tri-athalete (and a serving Police officer) had the front caliper bolt break at less than that speed, his helmet saved a lot of skull damage, but he broke an arm and a leg. The damage to his cervical spine may mean he'll never be allowed to compete again, he also had bleeding on the brain needing a burr hole and evacuation... 6 weeks in hospital, still signed off 6 months later.

Usual ewo wheeled nutters spouting out againsy a driver who for all we know was well past the girl before she came off. The fact that her injuries are rare at low speed is irrelevant, people have broken their spines stepping of the kerb. It's not possible to comment further on this until we actually know the facts. Hope the young lady fully recovers soon.

Which is as downfader said, rare to happen at low speeds, yes there are one or two unfortunate people who do get hurt badly when they come off at low speed but most of the time you'd mostly get a bit of road rash at low speed, though I do wonder if I should buy some cycling body armor just in case I lose traction and fly off church hill road into a tree at 40mph+ or I get hit by a car at those speeds, I mean I could quite easily hit 50 down that hill.
