Denham calls for Government to step in
SOUTHAMPTON ITCHEN MP John Denham has called for the government to step in to save the Ford plant from the feared closure.
Mr Denham called on ministers to "do what they could" to stop Ford pulling out of the city, if that was their plan.
He said: "It would be a huge blow it is the last place in the UK where Ford still make complete vehicles. In many ways it would mean the end of Ford's involvement in the UK.
"I don't think that the government should simply say that it is unfortunate.
"It might be fords strategy maybe to shift all of its production to other EU and non EU countries and I think that the Government needs to put very strong pressure on Ford to rethink their decision, if closing the Southampton plant is the decision they have made."

Mr King Canute Denham. More sh1te from him!
It is because of the Unions that our once proud car companies no longer exist and we have no mainstream British car companies after Red Robbo destroyed BMC or Rover.
Why is it that France can support 3 major car producers, Germany has 4 etc?
Face it Ford havent made a good car for years and the Transit has been outshone by VW and Merc for years, even the Japanese vans are superior.
The factory at Swaythling has been haunted for years by greedy grasping Unions and at the end of the day labour costs per van are higher than in other factories, its just a matter of simple economics, something that unions have no grasp of.

- very strongly for Labour's anti-terrorism laws
- strongly against an investigation into the Iraq war
- moderately for a transparent Parliament (yeah, not like any of the plebs should know how parliament works)
- very strongly for introducing ID cards
- strongly for a stricter asylum system
Many of these were once the proposals of the Thatcher era and before.

The difference is that the French and Germans have never been sold the Thatcherite lie that it is a good idea to abandon all industry except finance. By your reasoning I assume you are also opposed to the bank bailouts?

..this has lead to a political culture (all parties) where we've become a nation of a few money men, service industries (how many more coffee shops can we squeeze in places) and shops.
It is also partly why when industry jobs are needed here we dont always have the people to fill the position. UK workers dont see themselves as appropriate for the job, they've been told we're all "middle class" - so those jobs end up with an influx of foreign workers because those are the only people really going for the job..
..well until this year when many a hand was forced.
