A HAMPSHIRE youngster's first ever Hallowe'en trick or treat outing ended in tears when yobs pelted her with eggs.

Seven-year-old Caitlin McDonnel was targeted by thugs as they drove past in a car while she was out trick or treating with her friends.

Caitlin, of Millbrook, Southampton, was left with a large red mark on her back after one of the eggs struck her - covering her fancy dress cat costume in yolk and shell.

The Oakwood Junior School pupil's ordeal began on Hallowe'en night after she was returning from a fancy dress party in Weston, Southampton, with her big sister Harmony, ten, and a group of friends.

Mum Karen Boyle, 28, of Brendon Green, Millbrook, told the Daily Echo she was escorting the excited youngsters home when they told her that they wanted to do a bit of trick or treating.

Karen said: "It was a bit ironic actually. I had just instructed them about what to do when they went trick or treating, only to knock on the door once and never to go to a house which did not have lights on, when some people drove past in a silver car.

"At first, nothing registered, then I saw something silver glistening on Caitlin's back. She looked round and said ow!' and then she started to cry."

Karen took Caitlin home and put her in the shower.

She noticed a large red mark on her daughter's back where the egg had struck her in the incident, in Kingsclere Avenue, Weston.

Busiest night She added: "It was her first trick or treat and she never even got a sweet.

"She just sat on the sofa sucking her thumb afterwards.

"She was complaining it was hurting her. She refused to get back into her nice clothes and just put her school uniform on.

"These people may have thought what they did was a bit of fun but they have ruined a little girl's Hallowe'en."

As reported in yesterday's Daily Echo, Hallowe'en saw the busiest night for staff manning Hampshire's new 101 antisocial behaviour hotline.

In just a four-hour period they answered an average of one call every ten seconds from residents complaining about the behaviour of yobs.
