MORE than 12,000 single parent families live in Southampton, new statistics reveal.

The charity Gingerbread released the figures as it launches a national campaign called Make it Work to get more single parents into work.

The organisation claims the Government and employers across the county are failing single parents by not taking steps, such as offering affordable childcare and flexible jobs, to encourage single parents to work.

I grew up in a single parent household and was just fine without help from the government or anyone. Yes we may be poor but my mum did an excellent job on her own which just shows you if you strive to do it on your own you can.

"MORE than 12,000 single parent families live in Southampton, new statistics reveal."

This doesnt mean all of them do not work. Where are the statistics that show how many of these 12 000 are not in work?
