Ban for motorcyclist caught speeding at 152mph
A Hampshire motorcyclist caught speeding at 152mph has been banned from the roads for 12 months after being convicted of dangerous driving, a safer roads partnership said.
The speed at which Stephen Tull was clocked at on the A27 in West Sussex was the highest recorded nationally last year and more than double the road's 70mph limit.
At Worthing Magistrates' Court today, Tull, who was riding his Yamaha YZF-R1 with no MoT, was found guilty of dangerous driving and was ordered to do 200 hours of unpaid work and pay £620 costs.
The 37-year-old, of Pennels Close, Milland, Liphook, was also told to complete an extended retest at the end of his 12-month disqualification period, the Sussex Safer Roads Partnership said.
A spokesman said the speeding offence - the highest ever detected in Sussex - took place on October 16 last year.
At one point, Tull accelerated from 139mph to 152mph in four seconds while riding towards a blind crest and a hidden junction.
Chris Snell, a safety camera technician for the Sussex Safer Roads Partnership, said following the case: ''The court's judgment shows how clearly unacceptable this type of behaviour is on our roads and in our communities.''
Expert witness Steve Callaghan, of Road Safety Support (RSS) Ltd, said: ''This was highly dangerous and deliberate behaviour which put road users at great risk.
''Thankfully, this reckless act was captured on film by a mobile safety camera and Mr Tull can now be properly punished for his actions.''

As for 'filtering' on dual and wider carriageways, perfectly legal IF done at a reasonable speed and other traffic is slow moving, the Police riders course teaches filtering at high speed through traffic at 70mph, without blues and twos.
Doesn't stop stuck cagers doing stupid things to try and stop motorcyclists legally 'making progress', though most of us are only too aware that texting is more important than paying attention to the road these days...

Excess speed like that on modern worn out over crowded roads, little sympathy.

He should have been banned for life, by giving him such a lenient sentence they are not sending out the right message i don't give two hoots if he wants to kill himself its the risk he has put others at that i object too.

We've all seen them, creating a third lane in the middle of a dual carriageway, and generally riding like the end of the world is coming.
Well for some I guess it is.
