Business in the Community Southampton Hub launched

New hub to help local communities New hub to help local communities

BUSINESSES across Southampton have been invited to join forces to support local communities through an innovative new scheme.

The business in the Community (BITC) Southampton Hub was launched at Ordnance Survey’s headquarters in Nursling, where 20 local businesses heard about the challenges faced by the city’s voluntary and education sectors.

The hub will focus on developing a collaborative approach among businesses to address these local issues.

Business in the Community has already been operating in Southampton for the last seven years, where local businesses have been helping local communities by undertaking a variety of projects, from sharing skills with the charities and voluntary organisations to establishing a three-year strategic partnership with a local school.

The BITC Southampton Hub being led by Jayne Carrington, managing director of Right Management Workplace Wellness, said: “There’s a real appetite among the business community to share the skills and expertise of staff. I’ve met with a number of local businesses and collaboration has been identified as a key factor in developing successful working partnerships with the local community. Businesses and communities I believe will increasingly see the benefits of working collaboratively.”

A steering group of eight businesses will now draw up action plans.
