HUNDREDS of homes have been without drinking water all day today - including Southampton's largest tower block.

Residents in the 25 storey Millbrook Towers, which has nearly 150 flats, and the surrounding homes have been without supplies after a water main burst on the junction of Ullswater Avenue and Windermere Avenue this morning at 9am.

A Southern Water told the Daily Echo it could offer no guarantees when supplies could be restored but that its engineers were now drilling down into tarmac to patch up the leak.

Its spokesman said: “Our priority is to restore supplies as soon as possible and we apologise to customers for the inconvenience caused.

“We have had 23 calls from customers reporting they have no water supplies.

“The first call came in at just after 9am but those customers had their supplies restored by early afternoon.

“However, as the water main had to be shut off so the repair could be completed, some customers who lost supplies this afternoon are still without water.

Residents in Millbrook Towers have been able only use hot water from the block's tank but not cold water.
